All 24 Valid Angles of a Valid Casino Die
This image shows all 8 possible die angles that you are able to see on a standard casino die.

There are only 8 possible angles that you should see (ignoring orientation)

In my previous post, we looked at how a fair die has 24 unique orientations — each representing a different way the cube can sit while still being a valid outcome. But there's redundancy baked into those 24 angles.

If we ignore rotation — that is, if we don't care which way the die is twisted around its vertical axis — then all those orientations collapse into just 8 distinct corners.

Here are the de-duped 8 angles:

I just wanted to make sure I included this de-duplication here for completeness sake. The 24 previously mentioned arrangements all factor in the orientation, but it should be obvious to some people that there can only be 8 corners of the "perfect die".

There are only 24 possible angles that you should see

So as a follow up to my last post on how to Draw Dice Correctly, I've decided to create a blog post with every single possible die angle that you should be able to see.

There are exactly 24 valid orientations when you're looking at a standard casino die. That's it. No more, no less. If you're seeing something different in a drawing, rendering, emoji, or logo, it's wrong.

Schematics for a standard casino die
This is a schematic for a perfectly crafted die. The orientation of all pipsA pip is a small mark indicating quantity — a dot on dice and a suit symbol on numbered playing cards. conforms with the standards used by most casinos.

Casino Dice Schematics: Why Do So Many Get This Wrong?

Look, I love dice. You love dice. If you're here reading this, you probably really love dice — or at least pretend to when you sidle up to a craps table and toss around phrases like “Yo-leven” and “horn-high ace-deuce.” But there's one thing that drives me absolutely nuts…

Bad dice drawings.
